A walk from Lewes to the High point of Mount Caburn, an Iron Age Hill Fort (Although now disputed) which gives a superb feel for the South Down and panoramic views

A walk exploring the SOuth Downs south of Lewes, Starting in the village of Rodmell, near the NT property of Monks House.

Walk from Lewes to the charming village of Alfriston - a real highlight of the South Downs Way. 

Get out and explore more of the South Downs Way with this circular walk from the Clayton Windmills (Jack and Jill) to Ditchling Beacon and the Chattri Memorial. This is a fairly easy 7 mile route with mostly firm, chalky ground, making this a great walking option all year round. If you check ahead, there’s also a possibility to have a tour around the Jill windmill, which is still operational today and learn a thing or two about how flour was and still is made. An easy walk in the Ouse valley starting at Isfield Church and Ouse riverside towards Barcombe & returning via the Anchor Inn, taking in waterside meadows, woodland and grazing land.

Plumpton and a good walk up and around this area of the South Downs. After a short climb great 360 views, The Channel to the South, Newhaven and Brighton visible. North you get Ditchling, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath all visible with The Low Weald laid at your feet. Classic chalk downland scenery, flora & fauna. A great place for children to run off energy and for the rest of us to recharge the soul

A delightful walk under and across the tops of the South Downs on public footpaths. Also explores vineyard tucked away in the downs.

Walk through the countryside through Barcombe Mills and alongside River Ouse

Lovely and easy 10 mile (16 km) circular walk around Lewes, by the river to Barcombe, across the fields via the Rainbow pub, and up to Blackcap on the South Downs.A great way to get a good sense of Lewes and the nearby countryside - the combination of river, farmland Downs and town that make it so special. Imagine Lewes as the centre of a flower - and this is one of several petals. Look around here to find more. 

Late August 2020 on a fine bank holiday afternoon was a great time for this walk. Equable temperature, good light, great views and scenery with industrail heritage thrown in. Starting below the South Downs at the station the walk climbs the downs to give extensive panoramic views before descending by the old Chalk quarries & lime burning area, then through Offham to walk alongside the Sussex Ouse to Hamsey & then return to Cooksbridge.
